Farmed Trees-model
Double A Paper has developed a worldwide unique model for the production of its paper: the Farmed Trees-model. This model is based on sustainability for the environment, society and economy.
One million contracted Thai farmers grow specifically chosen Eucalyptus trees alongside their rice, cassava, sugar and corn plots. This leaves no need to use existing trees from natural forests as raw material for the paper production. After 3 to 5 years the trees are being shipped to the mill.
Advance Agro delivers the small plants to the farmers and takes care of the logging and shipment of the trees. In these 3 to 5 years the trees release 900,000 tonnes of oxigen annually and reduce CO2-emission by 1.32 million tonnnes a year. Every farmer grows 60 to 120 trees, earning an extra 6,000 Baht over their normal income.
A 36 million cubic meter purpose-built reservoir located at the mill collects rain water and run off. It provides 100 percent of the mill's water, while recycled water is used to irrigate the trees. Double A uses tree waste (bark and lignin) to generate electricity to run its mill, saving 200 million liters of oil annually.
